๐ฏ Cross Guide
The cross is the first step of CFOP. Your goal is to solve 4 white edge pieces on the bottom layer, aligned with their center colors. A good cross should take 8 moves or less.
๐ก Cross Tips & Tricks
- Full planning: Use all 15 seconds of inspection to plan your ENTIRE cross โ all 4 edges, in order
- Color neutral: Practice starting on any color. This gives you 6ร more chances for an easy cross
- Pair edges: Look for two edges that can be solved together (e.g., F2 solves two edges at once)
- Cross on bottom: Always solve cross on the D face โ this lets you see F2L pieces immediately
- 8-move rule: A good cross should NEVER take more than 8 moves. If it does, find a better solution
- X-Cross: Advanced โ solve the cross + one F2L pair simultaneously during cross
- Keyhole method: Use empty D-layer slots to insert edges without disturbing solved ones
- Practice blind: Plan the cross, close your eyes, execute. Builds planning confidence

F2L is about solving corner-edge pairs together. There are 41 cases, but learning them intuitively is better than memorizing algorithms. Focus on understanding how pieces move!
๐ก F2L Tips & Tricks
- Intuitive first: Learn F2L by understanding WHY pieces move โ optimize with algorithms later
- Find the pair: Always locate BOTH the corner and edge before starting. Check all 4 slots
- Hide and seek: "Hide" one piece behind a solved slot, bring the other to U layer, then pair them
- Minimize rotations: Cube rotations kill speed. Insert from both left (F'/L) and right (R/B') without rotating
- U-move only: Use U/U'/U2 to position โ never disturb your cross or other solved F2L pairs
- Lookahead: While your hands execute one pair, your EYES should already track the next pair
- Empty slot trick: When a pair is in a wrong slot, use an empty slot to extract and re-pair
- Multislotting: Advanced โ influence the next pair's position while inserting the current one
- F2L โ OLL influence: Choose inserts that leave easier OLL cases (e.g., avoid dot cases)
- Deduction: If you can't see a piece, it's in the back. Learn to deduce positions without rotating

Skip entire solve steps with these advanced techniques. These algorithms combine multiple CFOP steps, letting you skip OLL, PLL, or both entirely.
๐ฏ When to Learn These
- Prerequisites: Know full OLL and PLL before starting these
- Sub-20 solvers: Start with Winter Variation โ the easiest advanced technique
- Sub-15 solvers: Learn COLL for your most common OLL cases
- Sub-12 solvers: Begin ZBLL subsets for maximum efficiency
- Recognition: These require pattern recognition during F2L โ train your lookahead first

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SupaKewber
๐ GAN Smart Cube & Bluetooth Connection
Click the "Connect Cube" button in the sidebar (or the cube icon on mobile). Your browser will show a Bluetooth pairing dialog โ select your GAN cube from the list and click "Pair". Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and the cube is turned on (give it a twist to wake it up).
SupaKewber supports most GAN smart cubes that use Bluetooth, including the GAN 356i, GAN 356i Carry, GAN 12 UI, and GAN iCarry. We use a community Bluetooth protocol library, so newer models should work too โ but some may need a firmware update.
Bluetooth cube connections can be finicky โ here are some things to try:
- Refresh the page and try connecting again. This fixes most issues.
- Move the cube closer to your device โ Bluetooth range is limited.
- Make sure only one tab is trying to connect. Two tabs fighting over the same cube will cause problems.
- Close the GAN Robot / CubeStation app if it's open โ it may be holding the Bluetooth connection.
- Restart Bluetooth on your device (toggle it off and on).
- Try Chrome or Edge โ Web Bluetooth works best on Chromium-based browsers. Safari and Firefox don't support it.
- On Android, make sure "Location Services" is enabled โ Android requires it for Bluetooth scanning (we don't track your location).
If it still won't connect, try removing the cube from your OS Bluetooth pairings list and re-pairing from scratch.
Sometimes the Bluetooth handshake completes but the encrypted data channel hasn't fully synced. Try:
- Disconnect and reconnect from the sidebar.
- Do a few random moves โ the first 2-3 turns after connecting can sometimes be missed while the encryption keys sync.
- If the 3D cube on screen shows the wrong state, solve the real cube to the solved position and it should auto-correct.
Unfortunately, Safari does not support Web Bluetooth, so smart cube connection won't work on iPhones or iPads. You can still use SupaKewber as a manual timer with the spacebar or on-screen button. For smart cube features, use a laptop/desktop with Chrome or Edge, or an Android device.
Currently SupaKewber only supports GAN smart cubes via the GAN Bluetooth protocol. We'd love to add support for other brands (Moyu, QiYi, etc.) in the future โ let us know if that's something you'd like!
โฑ๏ธ Using the Timer
If you have a smart cube connected, the timer starts automatically when you make your first move after a scramble, and stops when the cube is solved. No buttons needed!
Without a smart cube, press and hold spacebar (or tap the timer area on mobile) to prime the timer, then release to start. Press again to stop.
CFOP is the most popular speedcubing method. When using a smart cube, SupaKewber automatically detects each stage of your solve and gives you split times:
- Cross โ Solving the first layer cross
- F2L โ First Two Layers (corner-edge pairs)
- OLL โ Orientation of the Last Layer
- PLL โ Permutation of the Last Layer
This helps you identify which part of your solve needs the most improvement.
Scrambles are randomly generated move sequences that put the cube into a random state. Our scrambles use the same WCA-standard random state algorithm used in official competitions, generated via the cubing.js library.
๐ Tournaments
There are three tournament types: Daily (Ao5 solves), Weekly (Ao10 solves), and Monthly (Ao20 solves). You use a trophy ticket to enter โ complete all your solves and your average time is ranked against other competitors. Prizes in trophies are awarded to the top finishers!
Trophies are the in-site currency. You earn them by placing in tournaments and they come in two types: ๐ฅ Gold and ๐ Diamond (worth 10 gold each). You can spend them in the Trophy Shop on tournament entry tickets, avatar frames, and other cosmetics.
Yes! You can use manual timing (spacebar or tap) for tournaments. However, smart cube users have the advantage of automatic detection โ no accidental early/late stops.
๐ค Account & General
Yes โ 100% free! No paywalls, no premium tiers. If you'd like to help keep the servers running, we have a donate button on the home page.
You can use the timer and practice without logging in. But you'll need an account to save your solve history, appear on the leaderboard, enter tournaments, and earn trophies.
Your solve times and account info are stored on our servers. We don't sell your data to third parties. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
