The original GAN 356i predates the protocols used by many newer GAN smart cubes. It exposes a different Bluetooth service and uses polling plus a system-ID-derived encryption path rather than the later notification flow.
Owners can still use the cube for move-aware practice when the host Bluetooth stack and firmware cooperate. Buyers comparing current models should treat the 356i as an older electronics generation rather than assuming every 356i-branded cube behaves identically.
02Connecting the GAN 356i in a browser
Wake the cube, use a supported Chromium browser and select the GAN device from SupaKewber. The connection code inspects the advertised services and routes an original 356i to the Gen1 driver instead of applying a newer protocol.
The Gen1 path reads device information needed for key derivation and polls physical state changes. Keep the cube close and avoid another app connecting during this discovery sequence.
03What SupaKewber can measure
When turns are decoded successfully, the timer can mirror cube state, validate the scramble and use the first move and solved state as timing boundaries.
CFOP stage detection happens in SupaKewber after the move updates are applied, so the training output is consistent with newer supported cubes even though the transport protocol differs.
04Ownership and troubleshooting notes
Older smart-cube electronics can be more affected by battery condition, operating-system Bluetooth changes and firmware quirks. Begin troubleshooting with power, distance and competing clients before changing advanced browser flags.
If service discovery fails, restart the cube and host Bluetooth, reconnect quickly after waking it and confirm no official app is running. Some older systems may expose less complete Web Bluetooth support.
