Recognize Jb-Perm from several angles

Front view

Find the solved 1×2 block and the adjacent headlights. Unlike T-perm, the solved pieces and swap form the characteristic J-shaped relationship.

Right · 90°

Right view

Use the bar position plus the direction of the unsolved edge cycle. This view is useful for two-sided recognition without seeing the easiest face.

Back · 180°

Back view

Confirm the block remains intact around the back corner. Practice beginning the algorithm without rotating the block to the front.

Left · -90°

Left view

Compare against Ja and T using color opposites. The Jb block direction decides whether the standard RUF algorithm matches the case.

Apply the inverse setup from solved. Random U rotations are essential because Jb is often confused with T or its Ja partner from unfamiliar angles.

Execute as one controlled phrase

  1. Start R U R' in home grip and use the right index or thumb for F prime without a full hand rotation.
  2. Execute R U R' U' as a smooth central trigger.
  3. Use R' F R2 as one planned transition; align both right layers before the double turn.
  4. Finish U' R' and perform AUF with the free index finger.

Common mistakes

What usually breaks the case

  • Choosing T-perm because the solved block was recognized without checking its direction.
  • Pausing before F' or F because the finger assignment was never decided.
  • Overshooting R2 after the F move and locking the U layer.
  • Learning only the favorite front angle and rotating during every full solve.
