Recognize corners before edge cycles

Corner permutation is identified by headlights and the placement of matching corner pairs. Once corners are solved, the remaining edge pattern is an adjacent cycle, opposite swap or the H or Z pattern.

This split is easier to recognize than all 21 PLL cases at once and creates a dependable last-layer finish. U, H and Z algorithms remain part of full PLL.

A practice sequence that builds the skill

Learn the corner permutations from a stable grip, then Ua and Ub as directional edge cycles. Add H and Z, practice AUF and mix all cases under random U rotations.

Present only two visible sides, name the edge cycle direction and execute without cube rotations. After stopping the algorithm, predict and perform the final AUF immediately.

How to measure improvement

Separate recognition, execution and AUF time. A clean 2-look finish with no recognition spin can outperform a half-learned full PLL set with frequent pauses.

When two-look cases are stable, note which full PLL cases appear most often in your solves and replace them one at a time with one-look solutions.
